Meet Lobita

Meet Lobita

The Tauriko School Council has adopted 9 year old Lobita through World Vision. By sponsoring this child, we are helping to improve her access to better education and healthcare, secure a clean water supply and produce enough food for good nutrition all year round.

Lobita is 9 years old, she lives in Chigodi, Maliwi with her Mum and Dad. To help out her chores include carrying water. In her spare time she enjoys handball.

We will be having daily events each term that will support Lobita. Any creative ideas are welcome. Please email me - hannah6ngn@tauriko.school.nz

40 Hour Famine

I have had the pleasure of organising this year’s 40 Hour Famine for interested students in Years 6 -8. The 40 Hour Famine is where you give up something for an amount of time to raise money for those in need of food, water and shelter in Bangladesh. The event was run over the weekend of the 22nd of May – the 24th of May.

This year the famine options were:
·      Eating Rice and Water only
·      Skipping modern comforts (sleeping in a cardboard box)
·      Being Device Free
·      No Talking

There were 20 registered participants from Tauriko School and at this point we have raised $650 – there are still more booklets and sponsorship money to come in.
If you are interested in making a direct donation to this great cause here is the link - https://www.worldvision.org.nz/Portal/famine/search.aspx?q=Tauriko

A big congratulations to those who did complete the Famine, it is an awesome event to be involved in and all for a great cause.

This year the incredible speakers were  - William Pike, Tony Christiansen, Chris Jupp, Buck Shelford, Phoenix Puleanga (Youth Speaker) Arvin Pingol (Youth Speaker) and Jamie McDell.
Some key messages were to:
  • ·      Take every opportunity that comes your way
  • ·      Believe in yourself
  • ·      Dream big

It was also amazing to hear people’s stories and what they have done in life so far.

Success is a Journey

About Sophie Finn

Hello, I’m Sophie Finn. I’m very excited to be a 2015 Head Student because it is a good opportunity to lead and work with lots of people.

I think a leader is someone who:

  • ·     Tries their best in everyway
  • ·     Works well with others and is supportive
  • ·     Has creative ideas and listens to others
  • ·     Proud and Positive

I’m looking forward to leading the School Council and working with the teachers and younger students to create a happy and safe school environment.
I enjoy spending time with my cockatiel Wilbur and cat Charlie. I love playing my guitar and keyboard and have a real passion for music. I love singing and dancing to the world’s greatest hits.
I am a capable, bubbly and enthusiastic Tall Poppy and I am up for the coming challenges as a Head Student. I believe everybody is capable of something awesome if they really try and believe.

I look forward to working with the other Head Student Hannah Rose, and being one of Tauriko School's first Head Students.

About Hannah Rose

I’m Hannah Rose.  I’m 12 years old and a Year 8 student in the Tall Poppies Class. I’m very excited about being one of the first Head Students at Tauriko School with Sophie Finn. We have some great ideas for this coming year.  I am involved in lots of responsibilities within the school - I am a Dynamo Leader, Rimu House Captain, student librarian and a Planet Pals leader. I have also enjoyed being a student ambassador for school events and outings.

Something I’m really looking forward to is leading the School Council along with Sophie.  The School Council has been one of my favourite responsiblities. I was a Class Representative in 2013 and a School Council member last year and now I get to lead the team with Sophie.

I think a leader is someone who:
  • Works well with others and takes in everyone’s ideas
  • Is a positive and proud team member
  • Gives 110% to everything
  • Gives everything a go and enjoys challenge

·        I really enjoy Physical Education and I’m a keen team player.  I won the Tauriko School Sportsperson of the Year at the 2014 School Prizegiving.  I love running and swimming.  I play hockey and love most team sports.  One of my key goals is to push myself and take all opportunities as you never know what you might be good at.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends, reading a good book and eating rabbit food -salads and fruit. I look forward to a busy year ahead and working with lots of new people.
